Entry Date for Woodbridge 10k Announced

The Woodbridge Shufflers are pleased to announce that the highly popular Woodbridge Round-the-Town Charity races will take place on Sunday 20th May at 12 noon. The races, which follow an undulating course through the streets of Woodbridge, feature a 10k circuit for runners aged 15+ and a 1.5km race for juniors aged 7-15.

The ‘Round the Town’ is a true highlight of the Woodbridge sporting and social calendar, attracting visitors and residents alike to line the streets in support of the runners. This year will follow the same tried-and-tested format as in previous years, with no changes to the course and offering approximately 700 places for seniors and 150 for juniors.

The races are incredibly popular (last year’s 10k sold out in around 45 minutes!) and entries will open on Saturday 3rd March at 12 noon so all those wishing to enter are advised to keep a close eye on the Woodbridge Shufflers website where details of the online entry will be published. Details will also be shared with local online publications and on the Woodbridge Shufflers 10k Facebook page.

The races are proud to raise money for local charities and in 2017, a record-breaking amount was raised, providing nearly £11,000 for three organisations chosen by the family of Andrea McNally, a former Woodbridge Shuffler who died from breast cancer in early 2017.

Details of the sponsors and the charities supported in 2018 will be announced in March.

For more information, including entry details and planned road closures, keep an eye on the Woodbridge Shufflers website: woodbridgeshufflers.org.uk/our-races/woodbridge-10k/

There is a 10km senior race for those aged 15 and over as well as a 1.5km junior race for 7 to 15 year olds. 2015 Woodbridge 10k Charitable Donations

Following the 34th 10km Woodbridge Round-the-Town race held on the 17th May 2015, the Woodbridge Shufflers are pleased to announce that £6000 was raised in total and six local charities have each received a £1000 donation. The six charities that have benefited from this year’s race along with how the donations will be spent are:

  • Avenues East provides specialist social care supporting people facing significant disadvantage through illness and disability so they can live full lives in their local communities. The donation will go towards the group’s weekly disabled swimming sessions and regular leisure disabled clubs, where disabled people take part in sport and leisure activities.
  • The Ipswich Opportunity Group is a support group for families who have pre-school aged children with additional needs, providing appropriate play activities for the children in a large playroom as well as support for parents/carers who stay for sessions. The donation will help provide the play sessions at the Salvation Army Hall in Ipswich.
  • The Leiston, Saxmundham & District Citizens Advice Bureau provides free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to everyone on their rights and responsibilities. The donation will go towards improvements to the Woodbridge outreach services at Framfield Surgery and Woodbridge Library.
  • The RSPCA Suffolk East and Ipswich Branch is an independent, self-fundraising branch of the National RSPCA and runs a re-homing centre and provides a welfare clinic for owners who are in receipt of some form of benefit and therefore cannot afford the full cost of veterinary treatment. The donation will be used to support the 100+ animals awaiting re-homing at the Martlesham Animal Home and the 2000+ animals seen at the Ipswich Welfare Clinic
  • The Suffolk Accident Rescue Service provides specially trained doctors and paramedics to assist the East of England Ambulance Service at scenes of serious incidents. The donation will go towards the training sessions and equipment for their clinical volunteers.
  • The 5th Woodbridge Sea Scout Group helps children and young adults reach their full potential by offering fun and challenging water and nautical activities, unique experiences and the chance to help others making a positive impact in communities. The donation has been used to purchase four new tents for a cub camp over the summer.

The Woodbridge Shufflers would like to thank to all those that either ran, supported or volunteered at this year’s race and these donations could not be made without all of your support.

The 35th annual Woodbridge 10k road race will take place on Sunday 15th May 2016 and further details will be announced on our website early in the new year.
